Vol. 178 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Matt River (Balbriggan) Flooding.

16.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he received representations on behalf of a number of land owners whose lands are being flooded by the Matt river near Balbriggan because of the need for deepening the river bed; and if he will provide a grant towards the cost of having this work carried out.

Following representations made to me in June, 1958, and August, 1959, an application has been received in my Department from farmers whose holdings adjoin the Matt river for the widening, cleaning and deepening of the river under the Land Project. A detailed survey of the river will be carried out as soon as conditions permit. If the work should be found suitable for execution under the project, a plan and specification would be prepared and sent to the applicants' representatives, who would also be notified of the amount of the grant.
