Vol. 178 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation: Eligibility of Persons Engaged on Rescue Operations.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will take steps, if necessary by the introduction of legislation, to bring within the scope of the Workmen's Compensation Acts persons engaged on rescue operations such as the workmen who were employed on adjoining buildings, and who voluntarily went to the assistance of persons and helped to protect property threatened by a recent fire in Dublin city.

I propose to await the report of the Commission on Workmen's Compensation before considering amendments of the existing legislation.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary ever had this question transmitted to the Committee so that they might discuss the matter?

That is a separate question.

It is something that might be considered.
