Vol. 178 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Survey of Agricultural Credit: Valuation of Lands and Buildings.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the estimated value of (a) lands and (b) buildings included in the total valuation of land and buildings estimated at £500,000,000 on page 3 of the Survey of Agricultural Credit in Ireland (PR. 5223).

There are no official statistics available which give the total value of land and buildings in this country, and I cannot confirm the estimated figure of £500,000,000 referred to in the Deputy's question. In the experience of the Valuation Office in dealing with cases referred to them by the Revenue Commissioners for assessment of the capital value of farms with buildings thereon for Estate Duty purposes, the capital value of farm buildings—including residences—amounts on average to something between 10% and 15% of the total for land and buildings.
