Vol. 178 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Officers: Training in Police College.

30.

asked the Minister for Justice whether specially selected young Garda Síochána officers of inspector rank are being sent to a Police College in England for training; and, if so, if he will state the name of the College and the total cost to the State per officer, and give full details of the course which the officers will undergo.

Two Inspectors of the Garda Síochána were specially selected to attend an eleven weeks' Course at the Police College, Bramshill House, Hartley Wintney, Basingstoke, Hampshire. It is not yet possible to indicate the total cost to the State in respect of each member as the full claims have not yet been received. It is expected, however, that it will amount to about £220.

The course consists of lectures and instruction in matters of interest to police, and among the subjects covered are the Administration and Organisation of a Police Force, Committee and Conference Work, Public Speaking, Leadership, Prevention of Offences and Road Safety and Accident Prevention.
