Vol. 180 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Allowances.

6.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will introduce legislation to enable children's allowances to be paid for an appropriate period beyond the age of sixteen years in respect of any child who first qualified for an allowance under the Children's Allowances Act, 1944, and in respect of whom no allowance was paid between birth and the qualifying dates of 1st May and 1st November as prescribed under the Act.

I do not intend to introduce legislation on the lines suggested.

We knew the answer to that one anyway.
