Vol. 180 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Éireann: Listener Inquiry.

33.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will publish the returns of the listener inquiry conducted by Radio Éireann some years ago; and, if not, why.

I suggest that the Deputy should address his inquiry in this matter direct to Radio Éireann where these inquiries were arranged and carried out.

Mr. Ryan

Is it not a fact that at the time these inquiries were carried out, Radio Éireann was directly under the Minister's Department and was not a separate body?

The inquiries were carried out by the station and the Minister did not come into the matter at all.

Mr. Ryan

Is not the real reason for not publishing these reports that they indicated that for every 100 people who listen to programmes in English only one listens to programmes in Irish?

The Deputy is making deductions that are ill-founded and for which he has no basis. I suggest that he ask Radio Éireann for the information.

Mr. Ryan

I suggest that the Minister publish the reports and show that I am wrong.
