Vol. 181 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Unplanted Forestry Lands.

36.

asked the Minister for Lands what unplanted land in County Kildare is in his possession for forestry purposes; what work he intends to carry out on such land in 1960-61; and approximately what labour force will be employed.

The nominal reserve of land available for planting at the three State Forests in Co. Kildare totals 571 acres. The planting programme for 1960/61 totals 648 acres, the apparent excess being due to the inclusion in the programme of areas formerly regarded as unplantable that have been reclassified as plantable in the light of modern experience and of old woodland areas that will be cleared and replanted in the year.

The programme is distributed as follows:—

Donadea—218 acres, Edenderry— 172 acres and Monasterevan—258 acres.

The volume of work available at the three Forests for the year is expected to provide employment for up to 74 men.
