Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Danger of Radio-Active Material in Irish Sea.

3.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether any representations have been made to the British Government regarding the potential danger to this country being caused by the fact that Britain pumps 10,000 curies of radio-active material monthly into the Irish sea; and, if so, if he will state the nature of the representations; and if not, if he will make representations.

I have made inquiries from the British Government and am satisfied from the information I have obtained that the amount of radio-active waste material being now pumped into the Irish Sea does not at present constitute a danger to the health of the people.

My Department will continue to keep the matter under review in conjunction with the Department of Health.
