Vol. 182 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registry of Friendly Societies: Inspection of Files.

5.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the time-wasting and inefficient system operated before a person may inspect a file in the office of the Registrar of Friendly Societies whereby one civil servant completes a form asking another civil servant to receive a shilling and a member of the public is sent from one room to another room three floors higher to pay the shilling and then back to the original room to inspect the file on production of a receipt for the shilling; and whether he will replace the system by a more sensible method.

Fees are paid in cash to my Department for various services and it is necessary to ensure that they are properly accounted for. In cases such as that cited by the Deputy where very small sums are involved I am arranging to simplify the system.
