Vol. 183 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Entrance Examinations for Dublin Technical Schools.

44.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that boys from Ballyfermot were not allowed to sit for the recent entrance examinations to technical schools save for Mount Street technical school; who was responsible for such a ruling; and why was it made.

I am not so aware. The admission of pupils to vocational schools in Dublin City is primarily a matter for the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

Mr. Ryan

Would the Minister say whether it is permissible for a vocational education committee to prohibit boys from particular areas competing in the entrance examination for schools in other areas? Would the Minister say if there is a precedent for the operation of a ban on boys of a particular parish entering a technical school in an adjoining parish?

I have no information that indicates that the suggestion made by the Deputy is true.

Mr. Ryan

I can assure the Minister that it is. I wonder if he would look into the matter?
