Vol. 183 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castlebar Tar-mixing Depot.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government (i) the cost of the erection of a tar-mixing depot at Castlebar, (ii) the cost of the subsequent legal proceedings in respect thereof, (iii) the result of the said proceedings, (iv) the cost of removal and/or of the destruction of the said depot, (v) whether any moneys will be salvaged, (vi) the net loss sustained in the entire project, and (vii) who will bear the ultimate cost of such loss.

I have no official information on the matters referred to in the Deputy's Question apart from what I conveyed to him in reply to a question by him on the same subject in November last. The circumstances surrounding the erection of a tar-mixing depot at Castlebar and subsequent developments will be subject to review by the Local Government auditor in due course in his audit of the accounts of the Mayo County Council and in the meantime I do not wish to prejudice the issues involved.
