The first stage of the drilling programme in the Leinster coal-field has been completed and the second stage of the programme, which will take about two years to complete, is in progress.
The first stage has been effective in giving precise information as to the existence of coal, the thickness of the seams and the quality of the coal in certain areas and as to the absence of workable coal in other areas. It would be undesirable to give more detailed information until the entire programme has been completed.
