Vol. 184 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents of Kilkenny Corporation Houses.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to give a decision on the dispute which has arisen between the Kilkenny County Manager and the Kilkenny Corporation in regard to a resolution adopted by the Corporation in May last under Section 4 of the City and County Management (Amendment) Act, 1955, against the decision of the County Manager to increase the rents of Corporation houses.

I am not yet in a position to give a decision on the dispute in question.

Is the Minister aware of the hardship he is creating for a big number of tenants of the Kilkenny Corporation by failure to give a decision? This decision has been held up since May last.

I am aware that this has given rise to concern not only in Kilkenny Corporation and among the tenants of the Kilkenny Corporation but it is also of some considerable concern to my Department and to myself. Might I say to the Deputy that while the delay appears to be unduly long, nevertheless, difficulties have been encountered in this matter which we shall have to resolve and which, in fact, we now have practically resolved. I am hoping to have a decision conveyed within a very few days.
