Vol. 189 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investigations by Fair Trade Commission.

31.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) the number of investigations by the Fair Trade Commission to date, (b) the number of recommendations made to him, and (c) what action he took thereon.

The Fair Trade Commission have held eight formal enquiries under the Restrictive Trade Practices Acts and have submitted recommendations to the Minister for Industry and Commerce in seven of those cases. The report of the other Enquiry is in course of preparation. In five instances, action has been taken by way of statutory Orders, which were subsequently confirmed by Act of the Oireachtas, prohibiting specified restrictive practices in relation to the supply and distribution of the goods concerned. It has been decided not to make an Order in one instance, while in the other the report of the enquiry is at present under examination, and a decision in regard to the action, if any, which would be appropriate will be taken shortly.
