Vol. 189 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Water Supply Scheme.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government what the delay is in carrying out the long promised and eagerly awaited water supply scheme for the town of Borris-in-Ossory and the village of Castletown, County Laois; and if he will take steps to ensure that there will be no further delays involved in this proposal in so far as his Department are concerned.

A regional water supply scheme designed to serve Castletown and Borris-in-Ossory was approved in principle by my Department in 1959. The Laois County Council decided subsequently to examine the feasibility of extending it to serve a wider area and their revised proposals are awaited in my Department.

There has been no delay in dealing with the scheme so far as my Department is concerned.
