Vol. 189 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Slua Mhuirí: Training Ship.

32.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has taken any firm decision with regard to securing a training ship suitable to the requirements of An Slua Mhuirí.

The purchase of a training ship for the use of An Slua Muirí is not at present contemplated.

Could the Minister indicate how it is intended to give sea training to An Slua Mhuirí if he is not going to purchase a ship?

The question of purchase will be considered in connection with next year's Estimate. I am not in a position to say whether a decision will be taken to purchase one or not.

The Minister is probably aware that the motor vessel Valonia is for sale on very reasonable terms and it may not be there next year. In view of the small amount involved would he not consider purchasing it?

It has been considered and it is not suitable.

Will the Minister say why?

No, not at the moment.
