Vol. 190 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inclusion of Compensation for Injuries in Assessment of Rents of Dublin Tenants.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that where a tenant of the Dublin Corporation obtains compensation for an injury which he has received, such compensation, together with current earnings, is taken into account in assessing his rent under the differential rent system; and, if so, if he will take steps, if necessary by legislation, to change this unjust rule.

The assessment of income derived by a tenant or by a member of his family from any particular source is a function of the housing authority concerned and does not require my approval. Accordingly I am not aware of details of such assessments.

I do not propose to modify the existing general powers of the housing authority in this respect.
