Vol. 190 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Units in Congo.

14.

asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to date of the army units in the Congo, the proportion of the total cost borne by the United Nations, and the actual amount paid by the United Nations in respect of these units.

It is not practicable to give the total cost to date of the Army Units in the Congo.

The United Nations bears all expenditure which would not have arisen in the normal course if the troops had not been made available.

A payment of £252,515, representing the bulk of the extra expenditure on the 32nd and 33rd Battalions, was made in March last by the United Nations. A claim in respect of the 34th Battalion is at present being compiled.
