Vol. 191 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Drugs and Medicines.

10.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has yet completed his investigations into the alleged excessive prices charged for drugs and medicines in the Republic as against prices charged for similar goods in the United Kingdom; if so, if he will state the result of his investigations; and, if not, when he expects to have his investigations completed.

I have informed Deputies in reply to previous questions that the prices in this country of drugs and medicines, with the exception of a limited number of preparations, are approximately the same as those prevailing in Britain and the Six Counties. As regards certain of these exceptional items, price reductions have been secured, effective from February, 1961, and there are indications that the import prices of other items will shortly be similarly reduced. Meanwhile I am keeping the position under close review.
