Vol. 192 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Accommodation for Widow: Offaly Proposal.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a widow and her six children are residing in a Bord na Móna house which they must leave very shortly at Bracknagh, Rathangan, Kildare; that there is no alternative accommodation for this widow and her large family; and that a local landowner has agreed to give a site to Offaly County Council to erect a cottage thereon; if he will give immediate attention to a proposal sent to his Department by the Offaly County Council having regard to the urgency of the matter and the very special circumstances associated with it; and if Bord na Móna will leave this family in the Board's house until such time as the local authority provide a cottage.

I would refer to my reply to a similar Question by the Deputy on the 6th June last, in which I made it clear that I am not usually in a position to answer questions about the housing needs of individual persons. The assessment of such needs is a matter for the local authority. I understand that the Offaly County Council have no application from, or information on, this particular person.

I have no responsibility for the administration of the housing estate of Bord na Móna.
