Vol. 192 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Army Aircraft.

80.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of aircraft in the possession of the Irish Army; the maximum average speed of such aircraft and the maximum speed of the speediest aircraft possessed by the army; and the maximum speed of the fastest military aircraft used by the British and U.S.A. air forces.

An tAer-Chór has 26 aircraft. There are five types and their average maximum speed in level flight is 254 miles per hour. The maximum speed of the speediest of them in level flight is 538 miles per hour.

I am not in a position to say what the maximum speeds of the fastest military aircraft used by the British and United States Air Forces are.

Would the Minister say if they are faster than the Irish aircraft or not?

Or if we need them or not.
