Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Insurance Charges.

66.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has completed his investigations into the claims made by the Motor Insurance Corporation to increase their charges; and, if not, whether he will ensure that before agreement is given to such increases the matter will first be discussed in the Dáil.

I have not yet received from the Insurance Companies the necessary information to enable me to complete my examination of the proposed increase in motor premium rates, and I do not think, therefore, that there is anything that I can usefully add to the replies which I have made recently to a number of questions on this subject.

Does the Minister expect to have that information before the New Year.?

I have urged on the insurance companies the necessity for having it quickly before the rates become operative.

Does the Minister propose to bring it into the Dáil for discussion?

The action I will take will depend on my examination.

Will the Minister have an opportunity of considering the evidence and coming to a decision before the new rates come into operation?

That is my hope. I have told Deputy McQuillan I have urged that on the insurance companies.
