Vol. 193 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Wicklow Marsh Lands.

70.

asked the Minister for Finance what arrangements will be made for the drainage of the marsh lands lying along the East Coast and extending approximately from Kilcoole to Wicklow; and if he will state the results of the survey carried out in respect of the area in question.

A preliminary engineering inspection of the area between Kilcoole and Wicklow disclosed that, owing to the behaviour and limited range of the tides and the low level of the lands, collection and detailed study of hydrological and tidal data over a period is required before the detailed field survey is put in hands and the design of works considered. Accordingly, it is not possible at present to say whether a satisfactory scheme can be produced and it will be about two years before a decision can be taken.
