Vol. 194 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Small Dwellings Loans for Farmers.

61.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider amending the legislation whereby a farmer whose rateable valuation exceeds £50 is not eligible for a loan under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts.

No upward revision is proposed in the valuation limit governing advances from the Local Loans Funds to finance the operations of local authorities under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts.

Would the Minister not agree that the upper limit of £50 for eligibility of farmers does not compare fairly with the present limits in relation to ordinary salaried workers?

That is a matter of opinion.

I do not think it is very relevant to the question of Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts loans. Rather should it be borne in mind that the £50 limit on valuation in regard to these loans covers over 90 per cent. of all farmers in the entire state.

The farmer with £55 valuation should be in a position to avail of the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts.

That is an argument.
