As the reply is lengthy and statistical, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

(1) The population of Dublin County Borough in 1930 on the basis of the 1926 census of population was 404,094*.

The information requested at (5) and (6) is not available.

(7) The wages of labourers employed by Dublin Corporation in 1930 ranged from 59/- to 64/- per week.

(8) The present rates of wages are 195/6 per week for casual employees and 203/- per week for pensionable employees with an additional 2/6d. per week after 20 years' pensionable service.

(9) The grades which corresponded to the present clerical officer grade were Clerk Class C and Clerk Class B and the salary scales for these grades in 1930 were £99 to £244 per annum and £144 to £313 per annum respectively.

(10) The present salary scale for clerical officers is £350 × £25—£550 × £30—£850 per annum.

* This figure is in respect of the population of Dublin County Borough as extended by the Local Government (Dublin) Act, 1930. The area of the County Borough was substantially increased between 1930 and 1961 as a result of boundary extensions in 1942 and 1953.
