Vol. 195 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Holidays.

26.

asked the Minister for Education whether the question of standardising school holidays has been under recent consideration by his Department; and if he will consider the advisability of issuing a directive to the managers of all schools in the matter, particularly with a view to enabling families to avail themselves of the reduced rates available for June holidays under the scheme recently organised by An Bord Fáilte.

I have had representations made to me in regard to this matter and have sought the views of various interested bodies on it.

Pending full consideration of all aspects of the matter, I am not in a position to issue any statement in regard to it. It must be borne in mind, however, that what is involved is something that does not lend itself to the issue of a general directive applicable to the whole country.
