Vol. 195 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Research Associations.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards have completed their consideration of the possibility of establishing research associations on an industry basis as referred to by him in Cork on 18th May; and, if so, what has been the result of this consideration.

The Institute have not yet completed their consideration of this matter. In view of the issues involved, I expect that it will take them some time to do so.

There would be no point in launching a scheme of this kind unless there were good prospects of support from manufacturers. My object in making public reference to the matter at this early stage was to get people in industrial circles thinking on this idea, and also to make it clear that the Institute has my support in exploring its possibilities.
