It is proposed to provide eight new Garda stations in the Kildare constituency. Sites for five of these, at Athy, Ballymore Eustace, Clane, Devlin and Kinnegad, are being sought. Working drawings are in hand for a new station at Ballivor, and tenders for the erection of a station at Rochfortbridge are under consideration. A new station at Droichead Nua will be erected on the site of the existing premises.
New Garda premises may be built at Rathangan as an alternative to carrying out major repairs on the existing station but that has yet to be decided by the Commissioners of Public Works.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will arrange with the Office of Public Works to paint and renovate the Garda station at Droichead Nua, County Kildare at an early date.
I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that they have arranged for the painting of the Garda Station at Droichead Nua. The erection on the site of the existing premises at this centre of a new Garda station and four houses for married members has been approved and will take some years to complete. In the light of this, renovation work on the existing station must be confined to essential repairs and these will be carried out when they arise.
Can the Minister say when it is proposed to paint the premises?
Arrangements have been made for the painting of the premises.
This town has entered the competition for tidy towns and people believe they are going to lose the competition because of the filthy condition of the Garda station. If the Minister is going to the Curragh, he should go and have a look at the station.
I shall bring this matter to the notice of my colleague, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance, for his urgent attention.
