Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Standard of Dental Training.

88.

asked the Minister for Education whether his attention has been drawn to a report that a visiting Committee of the British Dental Council to the dental schools in this country had reported so unfavourably on the standard of dental training here that Irish qualified dentists may no longer be recognised to practise in Britain; and whether he will consider investigating the standard of dental training in this country with a view to assisting the dental schools, by financial aid or other means, to raise their standards.

I am aware that reports of the Visiting Committee in question have been received by the dental authorities concerned.

I had previously had the whole matter of our dental teaching examined. Measures taken by me in regard to it had reached the point where planning for a new Dental hospital in Dublin had been almost completed and where arrangements had been made to have the necessary financial provision made available.

Any reconsideration of the matter which may be necessary as a result of the reports referred to will be undertaken without delay.
