Vol. 197 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Smuggling of Eggs.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the smuggling of eggs from Northern Ireland has reached serious proportions and is reacting most unfavourably on producers in Ireland; and whether anything can be done to restrict this illegal traffic more effectively.

I am not so aware but I have received a few complaints that some smuggling has been taking place. The special attention of the customs authorities has been drawn to the matter and my Department's egg marketing inspectors are also on the look out for any evidence of smuggled eggs.
