Vol. 199 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Travel Agencies.

31.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether, further to a reply of 24th January with regard to the operation of travel agents, Bord Fáilte or his Department take steps to ensure that travel agencies operating in this country are reputable and reliable; whether they investigate the operations of travel agents in any circumstances whatsoever; and whether they have at any time put forward the suggestion to established travel agents that a system of registration of travel agents might be introduced.

As I said in my reply on 24th January, 1963, no complaints of abuses by travel agents have been received in my Department or by Bord Fáilte and the question of measures on the lines mentioned by the Deputy has not, therefore, arisen.

The Deputy will appreciate that I have no statutory concern with the development of tourist traffic abroad with which travel agents in Ireland are principally concerned.

Would the Minister indicate what is the procedure in relation to complaints of this kind? What do Bord Fáilte do or what can they do?

Bord Fáilte have not received any complaint of any kind, nor have I.

To my knowledge, Bord Fáilte have received some complaints and I undertake to give the Minister copies of the complaints made.
