Vol. 200 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Ration Books.

35.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has seen the report of the British Government's decision to have ration books printed; if the Government have any information as to the reason for, or implications of, this decision; and if it is his intention to take similar steps here.

I have seen the report referred to. As part of long-term planning, the question of having rationing documents available here has been under examination for some time but no final decision has yet been taken.

Can the Minister say in what context it would be desirable to have rationing?

In the event of a very unusual emergency when supplies would be threatened by international action of some sort.
