Grants have been sanctioned in the following cases:
Crookhaven: Construction of mass concrete steps to provide low water landing facilities.
Dursey Island: Improvement of landing facilities. Acquisition of a site and a right-of-way thereto is being negotiated by the county council.
Gerahies ((Lochan): Provision of low-water landing steps and extension of decking of existing quay.
Pallas, Ardgroom Inward: Repairs to and resurfacing of existing pier.
The Crookhaven work is nearing completion. The Pallas and the Gerahies schemes will be started this summer. Commencement of the work at Dursey Island is held up pending acquisition by the county council of a site and right-of-way thereto.
Engineering reports have been furnished to sponsoring Departments for consideration in the following cases:
Baltimore—Construction of a new slip.
Crookhaven (McCarthy's Quay) — Resurfacing of quay.
Garnish—Construction of a breakwater.
Myross (Blind Harbour)—Provision of a new slip.
Oilean-na-gCaorach (Bere Island)— Rock removal and erection of a shelter on slip.
Reen (Castletownshend)—Extension of pier.
Schull—Provision of improved landing facilities.
Surveys have been carried out in connection with proposals for the repair and extension of a slip at Hare Island (East) and for the provision of a new pier at Tranferla Strand. Designs of schemes with plans and estimates are being prepared for transmission to the sponsoring Departments.
Inspections will be carried out and engineering reports furnished during the current year to sponsoring Departments, in respect of proposals for:
Laurence Cove (Bere Island).
The Bank (Whiddy Island).
Tranaha (Whiddy Island).
Requests for inspections and reports have recently been received in respect of proposals relating to Abbey Strand (Sherkin Island) and South Drum, Castletownbere. Inspections will be carried out in these cases also.
