Vol. 205 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Age of Houses.

37.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether a census has been made of the age of living accommodation in the State; if so, if he will give details of the number of houses built prior to (i) 1860, (ii) 1880, (iii) 1900, (iv) 1920 and (v) 1940 in (a) Dublin City and County, (b) Cork City, (c) Limerick City, (d) Waterford City, (e) Galway City and (f) the rest of the State; and, if no such census or estimate has been made, if he will have such made now to assist in planning an accurate house-building programme to meet expected needs.

Information enabling the preparation of statistics of the age of the national dwelling stock as an aid to the assessment of housing needs both present and future was collected at the request of my Department in the 1961 National Census. The results are not yet available but I understand that it is hoped to publish the summary results next December.
