Vol. 205 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Double Taxation Agreement.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if an application has been made to his Department to have a double taxation agreement between Ireland and Austria; and, if so, what steps have been taken in the matter.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The answer to the second part of the question is that preliminary steps have been taken towards the commencement of negotiations with the Austrian authorities.

May I ask the Minister if he is aware that this is holding up the establishment of an industrial project at the moment? Could he say how long it is likely to take to bring such an arrangement into effect?

I was not aware that it was holding up any particular industrial project. The Deputy will probably understand that these matters cannot be hurried because there are a number of countries negotiating at the present time. I fear that this business cannot reach any decision before next spring.

Is it here the hold-up is anticipated or in Austria? I am assured by the Austrians that there will be no hold-up as far as they are concerned?

No, no hold-up.
