(d) Present Position.

Schemes have been sanctioned to absorb the full allocation for each town, with the exception of a balance of £205 (State grant £172) for Kells. Schemes to absorb this balance are under examination in the Department of Local Government and will be submitted to the Special Employment Schemes Office this week.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether or not the schemes have been sanctioned by his Department in each case?

All the schemes have been sanctioned except in one instance. There is a balance of £205 in respect of the Kells allocation. Schemes to absorb this balance are under examination in the Department of Local Government and before the end of this week they will be re-submitted to my Department. All the other schemes for the area have been sanctioned.

Thank you. Will the Parliamentary Secretary ensure the same muddling which occurred over the last couple of years, not through any fault of his Department, will not occur again, so that people who are supposed to have these schemes available to get a few weeks' work before Christmas will get them?

All these schemes were received on 21st of the month and within six days, they were approved, with this exception.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary ensure the Kells example is not followed?
