Vol. 206 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Grants.

13.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of factories which have been given grants by the Industrial Development Authority and An Foras Tionscal and which have failed, and the amounts of money involved.

Four firms which received grants from An Foras Tionscal ceased production. The grants involved totalled £28,396. In four other cases, involving grants of £170,000, the original projects were abandoned but the factories were taken over and are being operated by other firms. In a ninth case, in which there was a grant of £45,000, the business is in the hands of a Receiver.

14.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what grants were made by An Foras Tionscal to (a) Ever-Fresh Foods, (b) Webster Hardware International Limited, (c) Padmore and Barnes Limited and (d) Robert Usher and Company Limited; what was the total sum granted; and whether these companies are in production.

I have made it clear in reply to previous similar questions that details of grants, particularly to named individual firms, will not be disclosed in advance of the presentation to Dáil Éireann of the annual report of An Foras Tionscal.

As to the last part of the question, the Deputies will appreciate that individual concerns are under no obligation to keep me informed about their production position.
