Vol. 206 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Housing.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any land, other than Watergate, had been acquired, or was about to be acquired, by Limerick Corporation for the erection of houses; and, if so, whether he will give details of such acquisition.

I understand that, in addition to lands acquired and now fully developed and the lands at Watergate, the Corporation have 97 acres of housing lands at Roxboro' Road which were purchased on various dates between April, 1959, and March, 1963. A compulsory purchase order with respect to an additional 63 acres of housing lands at Roxboro' Road was confirmed by me on the 22nd November, 1963, and a proposal for the acquisition of about 35 acres at Galvone is at present being examined in my Department. I understand that the Corporation are also investigating the possibility of purchasing further lands for housing purposes.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any progress has been made over the past month regarding the proposed housing scheme at Watergate, Limerick city; and if he will make a statement on the present position, and indicate a date on which work will commence on this scheme.

The re-development of the Watergate area for housing purposes was approved in principle on 24th October. The submission of a detailed design for the first phase of the development is awaited. I am not in a position at this stage to indicate when work on the scheme is likely to commence.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals had been received by his Department from Limerick Corporation for the accommodation of families evicted from dangerous buildings; and whether any of these proposals have been sanctioned.

Apart from an inquiry from the housing authority as to the method of financing the provision of ten chalets which are said to be for the housing of the working classes, there is no proposal at present before my Department for the accommodation of families displaced by statutory operations of Limerick Corporation under the Housing and Dangerous Buildings Codes.
