Vol. 207 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Home Assistance Officers.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the position in regard to the proposal made by the Dublin Health Authority for the appointment of seven permanent home assistance officers.

Subsequent to the receipt of the proposal in question, proposals for a general re-organisation of the administration of the assistance and health services, and the introduction of a new staff cadre, were received from the Dublin Health Authority. These proposals are under examination in my Department and in the Department of Health, which is also concerned in the matter.

Is the Minister aware that there are a large number of temporary home assistance officers, that some have been in fact, temporary since 1955, and that there is a lot of discontent in the Dublin Health Authority?

This proposal was superseded by another one proposing a general re-organisation of the administration of these services. It is at present under examination.

13.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has approved of the revised salary scale for temporary home assistance officers of the Dublin Health Authority.

Temporary assistance officers are paid a fixed wage and salary scales do not apply to them. Proposals received from the Dublin Health Authority in respect of the remuneration of temporary assistance officers employed by that body are under consideration and a decision will be given shortly.
