Vol. 208 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Price of Bread.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will take steps to control the price of bread.

I am having the case for the recent increase in bread prices examined in my Department. As I have already indicated in reply to previous questions, I will not hesitate to take action under the Prices Act if any undue increases take place in the price of bread or other essential commodities.

How long does the Minister expect this examination will take?

The examination has only recently begun. It is only a couple of days since I was notified of the increase. I cannot say exactly how long the examination will take.

Weeks? Months?

Will the Minister indicate what he means by "undue increases"?

I leave that to the intelligence of the Deputy.

And I am trying out the Minister's.
