Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Naas Road Dual Carriageway.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the next portion of the dual carriageway from Kill to the County Dublin boundary will be brought into use; and when the County Dublin portion of that carriageway will likewise be brought into service.

I understand that work on the County Kildare section of the Dublin-Naas dual carriageway is expected to be virtually completed by September or October next. The new length of dual carriageway will be opened to traffic as soon as possible after that.

Two contracts and various direct labour works are in progress on the Dublin County section of the road. The contracts cover a length of some 3½ miles south from Newlands Cross and, I understand, one is expected to be completed by July and the other by September. A further section covering the three miles to the Kildare county boundary will be put to tender as a single contract as soon as necessary acquisition has been completed by the county council. The preparation by the council of a scheme for the remaining section, between Bluebell and Newlands Cross, is in hands.
