Vol. 208 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Telephone Directory.

64.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider publishing the telephone directory in two separate parts, one to be published in April and the other in October, with in each case an annex for subscribers lately connected.

The question of publishing the directory in two separate parts was considered on a number of occasions. It was concluded, however, that so long as all the essential entries can be accommodated in a single volume of manageable size, this is clearly the best way to meet the needs and convenience of telephone users. In addition, it is the case that production and distribution costs would be far greater for two separate volumes than for a single directory.

Will the Minister then consider circulating after a six months' interval a small directory of the additional numbers that have come to hand since the previous one was published because a year is a long time?

I think I shall leave it as it is.

No wonder there is chaos.
