Vol. 209 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Forestry Employment.

64.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the services of 25 per cent of the regular labour force employed in the Woodford forestry district, County Galway, have recently been dispensed with; and what action he proposes to take to have these workers re-employed, as many of them have long years of service with his Department and have no other means of livelihood or support.

Contraction in the volume of work available made the recent staff reduction of five men at Woodford forest unavoidable. The nearest alternative forestry employment available is at Loughatorick forest, some seven to ten miles from the men's homes.
