Vol. 211 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Moorepark (Cork) Lands.

34.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) the total acreage of land in Moorepark, Fermoy, County Cork allotted by his Department to the Mitchelstown Co-operative Dairy Society, (b) the price paid to the Land Commission for this land, (c) the total area of the land at present being used by the Mitchelstown Co-operative Dairy Society, (d) the total area being let by them, (e) the number of years for which the lands are being let in this manner, (f) the amount received per year per acre for the letting and (g) whether, in view of these circumstances, he will consider resuming this land for division amongst the large number of owners of uneconomic holdings in the district.

As regards parts (a) and (b) of the question, a total area of some 318 acres on Moorepark Estate was allotted, in February, 1959, to Mitchelstown Co-operative Agricultural Society Ltd. for cattle progeny testing purposes in conjunction with the AI service. The lands were vested in the Society on 24th November, 1961. It is not the practice to publish the resale price of individual allotments.

The Land Commission are not in a position to furnish the details requested at (c), (d), (e) and (f). My information is, however, that temporary lettings were made to An Foras Talúntais for experimental work by that body on the rehabilitation and improvement of old pastures. In the circumstances, the suggestion in part (g) of the question does not arise.
