Vol. 211 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castleisland (Kerry) Housing.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there were nearly forty applicants for eight houses recently erected at Castleisland, County Kerry; that the County Medical Officer of Health recommended that they were all in need of rehousing; and that half of them were in immediate need of rehousing; what proposals for further housing in this area are before his Department; and if he will take immediate steps to alleviate the present shortage.

The number or the extent of the need of the applicants for the tenancies of the eight houses recently completed at Castleisland was not reported to me by the county council nor are there any proposals at present before me for the erection of further houses in the town. Approval issued in October, 1963, to the council's proposal to acquire approximately seven acres of land at Pound Lane for housing purposes. It is the function of the housing authority to initiate such further proposals for the provision of houses as they consider necessary.
