Vol. 212 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Pollution.

80.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will immediately make regulations to enable local authorities to take court proceedings against industrial and other firms causing pollution of the air.

81.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet made regulations dealing with air pollution from smoke and other fumes and sources in industrial areas.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take the replies to Questions Nos. 80 and 81 together.

I have not made any regulations dealing with air pollution from smoke and other fumes and sources in industrial areas. As a preliminary to revision or extension of existing controls in regard to air pollution a programme of measurements of air pollution is being carried out by my Department. Remedial measures which sanitary authorities may be empowered to take in the meantime are being considered.
