Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal-Dublin Telephone Delays.

83.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the serious inconvenience caused to business firms by the unprecedented delays in telephone communication between Glenties and other parts of the South Donegal and Dublin; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to remedy the situation.

I am aware that congestion has been arising on the telephone lines between Letterkenny and Sligo over which calls from Glenties and some other South Donegal exchanges to Dublin are connected. Work has commenced on a major trunking scheme which will connect Letterkenny and Donegal, by means of an underground co-axial cable, to the main co-axial system at Sligo. This is a major undertaking which will take a considerable time to complete but in the meantime every attention will be given to maintaining the best possible standard of service for subscribers in County Donegal.
