Vol. 212 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Garda Station.

53.

asked the Minister for Justice the present position in relation to the provision of a Garda station in Ballyfermot, Dublin.

Negotiations for the acquisition of the site at Ballyfermot Road, which was previously selected for this station, have failed. The suitability of another site is now being considered.

Is the Minister aware of the need for increased garda activity in the Ballyfermot area?

I am very much aware of it. As I say, there were negotiations for the purchase of a site at first. Those negotiations broke down and we are now at the point of finalising the purchase of another site, which is centrally situated.

Would the Minister consider having the number of gardaí available for duty increased in the interval?

This has been done in all fringe areas of Dublin where there has been an increase in population.

Is the Minister aware there are only two gardaí and one sergeant in Ballyfermot? This is an area where there are many itinerants.

That is a separate matter. The Deputy must put down another question on that.

Mr. Ryan

Would the Minister state where the new site is?

It is at Rossmore Avenue.
