Vol. 213 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Raw Milk in Public Institutions.

5.

asked the Minister for Health if he will now state further to a reply of 30th June, 1964, the result of the consideration given by his Department to the desirability of restricting the use of raw milk in public hospitals and local authority institutions.

Arising out of representations made to my Department by the Department of Agriculture, on 29th July last, my Department issued a circular to all health authorities urging the desirability of using pasteurised milk in their institutions in order to avoid the possibility of infection arising from the use of supplies of raw milk. Reports on the action being taken are still outstanding for some areas but the health authorities which have reported all intimate that they have implemented, or propose to implement, the recommendations in the circular. In the case of a small number of institutions located at a distance from pasteurising plants, it has not been possible to obtain tenders for the supply of pasteurised milk.
