Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Schools.

40.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that owing to the absence of both furniture and heating in the extension to the national schools at Finglas, Dublin some children in the area are being taught only for a two-hour period each day; and what steps he intends to take to remedy this situation.

I am aware that owing to difficulties arising from the building strike and to other difficulties associated with the provision of an additional transformer, it was not possible to heat the prefabricated classrooms recently erected at Finglas West. Because of this, it was necessary, as a temporary measure, to remove pupils from these classrooms and to operate a two-section school day.

I understand that the Electricity Supply Board is making special arrangements to provide the necessary current. I can assure the Deputy that every effort is being made to expedite this matter.

Am I to take it that every effort is being made to give the children concerned a full day's schooling?
